Iran Roundup and Media Illiteracy: The Consistent Inconsistency of the Left

When Jews are concerned, so-called “progressives” fall back on one thing: Their logic and principles go out the window.

If I’ve learned one thing since 7 October 2023, it’s that people I once thought to be otherwise intelligent and thoughtful can be bought and have forfeited all critical thinking skills and moral high ground. 1

And they’re not even getting paid; their media is just overtaken by propaganda to enrage and divide them.

The overwhelming result is that they just won’t listen to reason. I literally do this for a living, and they don’t care to listen to me, or to other informed Jews.

This past week alone, I’ve been told by such people:

  • Israel forced the United States to attack Iran because of the Epstein files (conspiracy theory; “Jews control the world” antisemitic trope)2
  • Israel is deliberately targeting civilians in Iran, Lebanon, and Gaza (literally false; they’re targeting military and terror proxies that attacked first and for decades, and give civilian evacuation orders)
  • The US and Israel deserve to be bombed (said by people LIVING in the US)
  • Israel and the US are violating international law,3 claimed by the same people who didn’t mention the 30,000+ protestors mowed down by the Iranian regime in just 2 days in January.

We now live in completely separate societies within a larger America. We get completely contradictory narratives, or no narrative at all, on certain topics.

The Mainstreaming of Unmainstream Media

I make it a point to get news from a variety of sources: Mainstream media (which frequently omits key facts,4 or just plain has a rabid, obvious bias against Israel and therefore toward Iranian terror groups5); X, formerly Twitter, where both journalists and very well-connected thinkers fill the gaps the media does not—and do it often in real time; and Instagram, where I follow both categories of the above as well as opposition.

And what I’ve found is that those peers of mine are only doing the last category: Getting news via social media, and only from sources they’ve selected, not from any kind of opposition. And let me be very clear: when I consume opposition media, it often blatantly supports terrorism. When others ignore opposition media, it’s the narratives of Israeli and Iranian civilians: level-headed, connected, making sense, and wanting eventual peace. It’s ordinary people speaking truths and complex realities.

There are endless examples of this phenomenon, most notably that the guilty “media” accounts assume Israel is a bad actor and give Hamas and Hezbollah all the damn grace in the world (Jewish Voice for Peace, Al Jazeera, and countless, paid pro-Palestine actors). Under this paradigm, Jews have no right to self-defense, but literal terrorists can do whatever they wish.

That’s the reality we live in now, and for Jews, it’s apocalyptic.

Palestinianism Propaganda in Social Media

There is a third category of social media “news”: NGOs and publications—both traditional media with actual websites, and those only found on Instagram and X—and by far, this category does the most damage. This category specifically:

  • Disregards terrorism, if it mentions it at all
  • Paints Arabs as permanent victims without agency
  • “Reports” things like “Israel bombs Lebanon!” 6—with no mention that Israel is bombing Hezbollah terror targets, not civilians
  • Relies on “journalists” 7 8 9 10 on the ground who often are blatantly just terrorists. Literally, seen with guns and rockets, or frequently have knowledge they possibly can not have unless they are WITH the terror organization; knowledge that would get any legitimate reporter killed
  • All of the above, and tying world events to domestic politics, is under the umbrella of Palestinianism

And this is who these people are trusting, and in doing so, are propping up the Iranian Regime, Russia 11, China, and more. As well as elevating their partners, the aforementioned murderous terror groups. [JudeaPedia: CRINkQ, the axis]

This is like trusting ISIS or Al Qaeda more than the United States. It’s fucking insanity.

For my sanity, I document all this to the best of my ability (@doingjewish, JVP Watch, JudeaPedia). But it’s like trying to sweep away waves at the shore; we are up against billions of dollars in propaganda that seeks to undermine the West.

The very least I can offer here is a look at the many, many crimes committed by the Iranian Regime 12 during its 47-year reign of terror. I’ve not seen this compiled anywhere else comprehensively; Wikipedia is a lost cause. 13 I am updating this list regularly, so check back here and share this post.

Iran has been killing Americans and Jews globally for over 40 years, and attacks are being thwarted daily 14. We can’t let this regime stay in power.

And we have to come to terms with a reality where these facts don’t matter right now to a significant portion of the population. Until we can address that head on, we will continue to see violence spread as polarization worsens.
